My name is Daun Miller and I had the pleasure of working for and with Chief Superintendent Al Toews (Retired) in the Yukon Territory from 1986-1989 while he was the Commanding Officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in "M" Division and I was the Corporal in charge of Pelly Crossing Det. He was a fine Officer and a Gentleman at all times and presented himself both in a Professional and Personal setting, in the manner that we all should aspire to!! God Bless and Keep you Sir!! My sincere condolences to the Family!!

Dear Joan and Family,
I am very sad to learn of Al's death. He was a fine man, a good friend and mentor to me at many points in my career with the RCMP. Without Al's guidance and , on occasion, scolding, I would not have enjoyed my career nearly so much. Al made an enormous contribution to the peace and security of our country over the course of his service in the Force and he is owed a debt of gratitude on behalf of all Canadians.
Al was always very justifiably proud of the accomplishments of his family and spoke proudly of all.
There is nothing I can say that will ease the pain of your loss other than to assure you that, with time and the support of a loving family, the emptiness now felt will be replaced by all of the fond memories of your lives together.

Kindest personal regards,

Norm Inkster Commissioner, RCMP, Retired.

Joan & Family: Very sorry to read of Al's passing and wanted to pass along our condolences to you and your family. Al was a great person to work for/with during our time at HQ and we had a few laughs too during our periodic carpool trips when you were living in Vernon. Jim (& Judy) Ball, Perth, ON
