Obituary

Obituary for Harry Joseph Searson

Harry Searson of Eganville passed away peacefully at Marianhill in Pembroke on Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 2020 after a brief illness in his 88th year. Predeceased by his loving wife, Mary (Cuddy) on February 28, 2016. Beloved father of Dan (Sandra) and Michael (Val). Much loved grandfather of Erin (Brendon Clouthier), Heather (Marc Laliberte) and Colleen, and great-grandfather of Levon, Angus and Cormac, and Matti and Cuddy. He will be dearly missed by brother, Ken, of Ottawa, several nieces and nephews and numerous friends and business acquaintances. Born at Hyndford, in Grattan Township, Harry was the son of Edward and Gertrude (Walsh) Searson. He was predeceased by brothers, Greg and Allan, and sisters, Aurelia (Beggan), Rachel (Wagener) and Nellie.
Harry was born on September 23, 1932 on the family farm in Hyndford which to this day remains in the family. In his younger years he was a used car salesman and then a pulpwood/lumber broker. In 1966 he became a dealer for Barko log loaders and other forestry equipment before establishing his own company in 1975 and began manufacturing Serco log loaders. Harry had a great appreciation for music and was especially fond of fiddle music. He made several trips to Ireland and to the Searson homestead and maintained contact with several cousins there. He was highly respected in the Ottawa Valley forest industry. He enjoyed life to the fullest, mentored many people in business, and helped hundreds of individuals suffering from alcoholism overcome their addiction throughout his 61 years as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Harry was civic-minded, serving on Eganville Village council, supporting health care needs in the community and also providing financial support to many community and Renfrew County charities and institutions. He was a faithful member of St. James Roman Catholic Church.
Harry's final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, funeral arrangements will be private. Harry will be laid to rest in St. James Cemetery, Eganville, on Saturday, May 16, 2020. A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Marianhill Foundation or Hospice Renfrew in memory of Harry. Tributes, condolences and donations can be made online at www.zohrfuneralhome.com

I hauled many loads of log loaders from the plant in Minnesota to Harry and Dan. They have both been such a pleasure to work with over the past 20 years. So many people have mentioned that Harry was a true gentleman. That is exactly how I always thought of him. I will miss him, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to know him. The was no greater family member in my life, as my Uncle Harry, guided me as best he could through some very ruff waters, (Storms). He would pick me up dust me off, provide some very stern guidance, and put me back on my way. I will never ever forget the talks we had during those walks. They called him a Man of All Seasons, no question he was. I will miss him so much, and I am very thankful for everything he did.
